The Civil War: Letters From the Front

Welcome. This is a collaborative undertaking to make available the many letters from Union soldiers that exist in the Widows' Certificates pension files at the US National Archives. Contributing

Thank you for your interest in this project! Here you can find instructions for getting started with contributing.

If you would like to contribute on a regular basis, please contact the Administrator. Anyone can be a regular contributor. Whether you are doing research in pension files and would like to post your own findings, or would simply like to transcribe the letters already posted here, each and every type of contribution significantly advances the project.

If you would prefer to be a more casual user, you are welcome to do a transcription of letters posted in the form of a post comment. As an unregistered contributor, these transcriptions would not be officially "blog-approved," but they can still be a huge help to the casual researcher.
